My current position is Vice President and Director of Research for “Select Greater Philadelphia”, a regional economic development organization covering the 11-county greater Philadelphia Region. I have been there just one year. My job is to perform and manage economic research that is used to attract new economic development into the region. I am an economist by profession, which is my undergrad degree, and I have a Masters in City and Regional Planning. I went to the University of Michigan for undergrad, and Ohio State for graduate school, so the annual OSU-Michigan game is big for me!
I have been elected 4 times (4 year terms) to the local school board (PA board members are not paid), I am chairman of the Finance Committee, and also serve on two county wide boards: the Delaware County Intermediate Unit is county wide educational services organization that provides special education and staff development services, and I also serve on the board of the local Career and Technical school. School board keeps me quite busy, but they keep re-electing me, and I enjoy it.
I have been married for 33 years (1974) to Sally Jo (McCoy) Hopkins from Mansfield, OH. We have three grown children – two of our own plus my niece who came to live with us many years ago. They are all out of college. I get back to Ohio infrequently. My brother and his wife live in Amherst, I am overdo to visit them. My wife’s sister is a long time English teacher at Roehm Junior high in Berea – Nancy Richardson. My parents are both deceased, so I don’t have as much reason to come back.
